The Residency
Carte blanche for young architects
The Residency is now open to young architects, with a call for applications for a research-project residency showcasing young contemporary architectural practice. The Residence is a stimulus for activity and reflection within the Cité. Residents are expected to stimulate the public's perception of architecture through their critical, forward-looking and inventive approach.
The resources allocated will support a forward-looking project - research-action, experimentation, survey, etc. - that the winner is expected to carry out. - that the prizewinner has already begun and wishes to develop, as it contributes to the development of his/her approach as an architect. The format and subject of these research projects are free: innovation, sustainability, survey, typological, processual or societal research, exploration of contemporary material and construction cultures, etc.
The results of the residency are presented at the Cité in a variety of formats: debate, seminar, exhibition, publication in the journal Archiscopie, video, installation, etc. The design phases of the project and the meetings with the public are recorded, archived and made available on the Cité's website.
In 2022-2023, architect Sébastien Tabourin is proposing a residency promoting the recycling and reuse of granite quarry waste in western France.
Every year from 2014 to 2022, the Cité de l'architecture et du patrimoine has hosted a Residency for a person or team from other fields of creation or knowledge, to further the exchange between architecture and contemporary cultural action.
