Benoit Marini
Turbulence / Empreintes invisibles
As part of its program dedicated to the dialogue between architecture and contemporary art, the Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine is hosting Benoit Marini in the Montoire Room / Mural Gallery. He is presenting two works: Turbulence (2025) and Empreintes invisibles (2026).
Research on the Perception of Light
For more than ten years, Benoit Marini has been exploring how light can take shape in space. His creations play with the viewer’s perspective to reveal light sculptures with a physical presence. These forms come to life and transform, sometimes to the point of appearing alive. Visitors are no longer simply viewing an image: they share the space with the sculptures and can move around them.
Turbulence
The installation opens with Turbulence. A form that is at first regular and peaceful is disrupted by increasingly intense disturbances. The transformation unfolds slowly: once the initial surprise and the desire to understand how this luminous volume appears have passed, the movement invites the viewer to engage in contemplative observation.
Empreintes invisibles / Invisibles Traces
The exhibition continues with Empreintes invisibles (Invisible Traces), a research project developed at the Cité. A building is not defined solely by its physical envelope; it influences the air that flows through it, thermal circulation, and the propagation of sound. Phenomena that surround us without being visible. Benoit Marini seeks to make these phenomena perceptible: a sound wave can become an image, and a flow of air or heat can transform into a movement of light. It is a way of viewing architecture for what it produces around it, and not just for what it shows us.
